Christopher Chapman

Assistant Professor of Medicine
Director, Bariatric and Metabolic Endoscopy
Department of Medicine
University of Chicago

Dr. Christopher Chapman is a gastroenterologist with an expertise in interventional endoscopy. He is a member of the Center for Endoscopic Research and Therapeutics (CERT), where he treats patients suffering from gastrointestinal disorders through minimally invasive endoscopic techniques. He has a special interest in endoscopic bariatric therapies, such as intragastric balloon placement, endoscopic suturing (endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and bariatric surgery revision) and aspiration therapy. These procedures offer a minimally invasive, reversible weight loss option for patients who are not candidates for, or decide against, surgery. He also performs a wide range of procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA)/cryotherapy, to diagnosis and treat a variety of gastrointestinal diseases. Through his ongoing research, Dr. Chapman has an interest in investigating how endoscopic techniques and tools used to treat obesity alter the microbiome.
